The Fort Valley State University Wildcats upset the Albany State Golden Rams in the 32nd annual Fountain City Classic, 31-21.
The Wildcats won by suppresing the Golden Rams on the ground, and rushing for over 200 yards on 35 attempts (averaging almost 6 yards per carry). Emmanuel Wilson was the leading rusher of the game with 221 net yards on the ground, a 41 yard burst and the scorer of all three of FVSU's touchdowns.
The success in their run game allowed things to open up beautifully for Fort Valley’s offense - quarterback Kelvin Durham was able to pass for 198 yards with a 71% completion rate and also scored a touchdown through the air, meanwhile, Albany State struggled severely; they were only able to muster up 86 rushing yards total.
The Wildcats maintained their lead throughout - though ASU scored on a blocked punt returned for touchdown late in fourth quarter. Although this put them within 3 points, FVSU would pull away for good soon after.
